Greatest Hits

The Best of the 60's, 70's, 80's, and today - from the Municipal Collection of Erlangen

Opening: November 25, 2017
Exhibition: November 26, 2017 - February 11, 2018

Good pictures and good songs – once you have them in your head, they will stay with you throughout your whole life.

From November onwards we will rock it once more – with the works of our collection. Since the 1970’s we have been collecting contemporary art in Erlangen. Our focus lies on graphics, multiples, and artist books but there are also sculptures, installations and videos.

For the exhibition Greatest Hits we record a mixtape and show it to you – in 11 rooms, on 2 floors, on almost 600 square metres. Not chronological or sorted by styles but with the same intention like back in the days when we used to copy Queen from vinyl to cassettes – to stay in your hearts. A graphic from the Sixties hangs next to a multiple from the Eighties and a photograph from 2016 fits so well to both that we cannot get enough of them. We see their relation to each other in a new light. Our collection like you have never seen it before – in the Kunstpalais like you have never seen it before!

Big opening party on Saturday, November 25, at 7 pm - with karaoke, DJs, drinks and the best hits of the past and today!

Featuring amongst others: Marina Abramović, Josef Albers, Vanessa Beecroft, Joseph Beuys, Anna und Bernhard Blume, Klaus vom Bruch, Chuck Close, Rupprecht Geiger, Rebecca Horn, Robert Indiana, Jürgen Klauke, Imi Knoebel, Alicja Kwade,  Sherrie Levine, Sol LeWitt, Joep van Liefland, Eduardo Paolozzi, Yuri Pattison, Otto Piene, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Thomas Ruff, Laurie Simmons, Juergen Teller und Andy Warhol.
