Meet and Greet. New Acquisitions of the Municipal Art Collection of Erlangen

A pop-up exhibition in crates and plastic sheets

Still half packed or wrapped up, only for a very short time and as close as never before the latest acquisitions of the Municipal Art Collection of Erlangen are now on display in Kunstpalais. Since the 1970s the City of Erlangen collects contemporary art. Its focus lies on graphic art, multiples, and artists’ books, as well as photography and video art. Over 4,500 works by several hundred artists are part of the Municipal Art Collection—and it continues to grow every year! Pop art, op art, land art, concrete art, or art informel—all major art movements from the postwar period to today are represented in Erlangen. For the most recent art there is yet no existing genre box to put it in… but all the better: get a completely new and unbiased impression!

From September 18 to 23, 2020 Kunstpalais opens its doors for you at selected hours and lets you, together with our curators Amely Deiss and Malte Lin-Kröger, look deeply into the treasure chest of the collection. The new acquisitions of the last ten years are brought from the depot to the exhibition rooms and are provisionally hung and placed, partly peeking out of the box, partly only just wrapped out of the foil. This pop-up exhibition offers a deep insight into and an exclusive preview of the presentation of the works in a big (collection) exhibition at Kunstpalais. Join us in welcoming the new art additions and celebrate a reunion with already familiar art works!

With works by Julian Charrière, Birgit Brenner, Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann, Eckhard Hahn, Benedikt Hipp, Alicja Kwade, Peter Land, Joep van Liefland, Yuri Pattison, Alona Rodeh, Kirstine Roepstorf, Lucia Simons, Erwin Olaf, Juergen Teller, Lars Teichmann, Michael Ullrich, Lily Urbat, Christian Werner, and Yarisal and Kublitz.

The exhibition is created in collaboration with the Freunde des Kunstpalais e.V. (Friends of the Kunstpalais Registered Association). The admission and guided tour fee is covered by the Freunde des Kunstpalais e.V. for you!
