The Feminist School of Painting is an exercise, an experiment, an open question. After six successful editions in different countries and languages, the workshop series initiated by Ad Minoliti (* 1980 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is celebrating its debut in Germany for the first time as part of the exhibition fables of abstraction and fungi at the Kunstpalais.
In cooperation with the artists Lilly Urbat, Eva Nüßlein, Irina Pilhofer, Verena Issel, Kensise Anders, Kieren Tockner, Sonja Yakovleva and Otakar Skala, Ad Minoliti and the Kunstpalais present six extraordinary art workshops. With open discussions, artistic guidance in the studio and incorporating the different artistic focuses of the course instructors, the Feminist School of Painting will become a place for curiosity, free inspiration and unconventional ways of thinking.18/11/2023 Workshop withLilly Urbat

We take the title of the exhibition High Five - The Collection in Motion literally! From 25 July, Susanne Großer from Popup Yoga will be offering Vinyasa Yoga every Tuesday at the Kunstpalais. Practising yoga in special places is a great way to experience spaces in a new way and leave the stress and tension of everyday life behind. Through movement and breathing, the present moment can be intensively perceived. The yoga class is a wonderful way to get in the mood for the exhibition.
Please bring your own mats. Our recommendation: In our shop you can also find beautiful yoga-mats!

Conceptual Art: Art Rules!
How free is art? Are there rules? And who sets them? Every aspect of our everyday life is permeated down to the smallest detail by rules, commandments and laws. Whether in our leisure time or in the world of work, very personal or in social interaction, self-determined or determined by others: Verena Issel believes that rules need to be talked about. Her workshop takes rules as its theme - whether in art or in society. She looks at how rules shape our coexistence and influence self-determination - especially that of women and minorities. In practice, the workshop imposes its own rules on the creation of images. Creatively, experimentally and provocatively, these are then worked on, strained and overcome.Duration: 3 hours

Mosaic art: The whole is more than the sum of its parts
What is the significance of the smallest compared to the whole? Piece by piece, mosaic art weaves motifs that only become visible on a larger scale. Geometric patterns or figurative images are created from an infinite number of individual pieces of different colours and shapes. The workshop with Kensise Anders and Kieren Tockner looks at different techniques of mosaic art, their meaning in different cultures and what it has to do with crochet and handicraft art. Through the practical creation of mosaics, the workshop also explores prejudices against handicrafts and so-called "housewife art" and breaks with outdated clichés with the help of queer-feminist theories and free discussion culture.Duration: 3 hours

The Kulturfalken are aimed at children and young people between the ages of 9 and 14 who want to discover Erlangen's culture - regardless of their level of experience. Starting from the Erlangen Theatre, the Kunstpalais and the City Library, the Kulturfalken go on a discovery tour, visit performances and exhibitions together, explore the individual cultural venues and perhaps even dare to think outside the box.
On 7 December, we will venture on a tour with a torch through the dark Kunstpalais.

Kleine Meister*innen: mysterious photos
In Thomas Ruff's pictures, the motifs are quite blurred and as if taken through a night vision device. We see houses and streets that seem strange, almost as if from another world. What mysterious thing is going on there?
Together we consider what story the photographs tell and what technique the artist used to take them. Afterwards, we will use the camera to test different ways of staging images.Time: Samstag – 10.00-12.30 Uhr

Feminist School of Painting with Sonja Yaklovleva
Historical painting: Fantasies of the sea
Mermaids, sirens, mermaids - they have always been the stuff of myths and legends. Today they can be found on the Starbucks logo, in souvenir shops, but also in classical painting as a motif in history paintings. As fascinating as these female fantasy figures are, the stereotypes surrounding them are backward. The workshop with Sonja Yakovleva critically reclassifies these water creatures and creates its own modern interpretations in silhouette. Male fantasies and the hashtag "notMyAriel" will also be discussed with reference to the artistic, historical and cultural history of reception.Duration: 3 hours

Feminist School of Painting with Otakar Skala
Icon painting: My pain is chronic but my ass is iconic
Myth - legend - star - influencer! Whether the icon painters of the Byzantine Empire captured saints of the Christian church on a gold background or whether a poster of your favourite band hangs above your bed in your bedroom today - people have been worshipping, idolising and idealising them since time immemorial. The workshop with Otakar Skala traces the tradition of Christian-Byzantine icon painting and translates it into the present day with the help of pop culture and memes. He also explores the influence of pop, queer and meme culture on the formation and charisma of idols, influencers and modern icons. Whether on a gold background or with glitter, the workshop aims to create its own modern iconography by designing its own icon paintings on canvas.Duration: 3 hours

In Ad Minoliti's subterranean realm, we go in search of geometric shapes. These can be found not only in her paintings, but also on the floor or on the wall. Yoga at Kunstpalais with Susa Großer
