adultsThe (Visual) Language of Humor
Christoph Haas in conversation with Amely Deiss and Christine Vogt
Whether it’s the subtly ironic drawings and subtle, clever wit of Christoph Niemann or the pitch-black humor and satirical edge of Walter Moers—humor is a central theme in two major exhibitions. Amely Deiss, director of the Kunstpalais and curator of the exhibition “Christoph Niemann. To the Point,” and Christine Vogt, director of the Ludwiggalerie Schloss Oberhausen and a renowned expert on Walter Moers, explore where humor—sometimes loud, sometimes quiet—lurks in the works of Niemann and Moers.
The event will be held in German and take place at the Stadtmuseum, Martin-Luther-Platz 9, 91054 Erlangen.Duration: 7 pm - 6 pm
Location: Stadtmuseum Erlangen

Christoph Niemann in conversation with Andreas Platthaus
Orangery in the Schlossgarten
“The best illustrator of our time is a German who lives in Berlin but works primarily for New York,” wrote Andreas Platthaus back in 2012 in the arts section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Is that still true? Christoph Niemann’s work has appeared on the covers of The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, and American Illustration. With his unique multimedia approach to graphic design, he continually expands the range of possibilities for creating something entirely his own without overcomplicating it.
Andreas Platthaus, head of the literature section at the FAZ, author of numerous books (including works on comics), and a long-standing member of the Max und Moritz jury, puts Christoph Niemann through his paces in this conversation.Artist Talk in the Orangery in the Schlossgarten -

Today, I am transforming myself into ...
A paintbrush becomes a dress, a folding ruler becomes the plumage of a flamingo, and a handful of dice transforms into a Dalmatian. In his famous Sunday Sketches, Christoph Niemann breathes new life into everyday objects with just a few strokes of his pen. The results surprise us, make us smile, and often tell a completely unexpected story. On our tour of the museum, we explore Niemann's unique perspective on the world. In the museum workshop, we get creative ourselves: we take everyday objects and turn them into funny new creatures—and make up exciting stories about them.
