Color magic. We paint with magic pens

They say that nature produces the most beautiful patterns... Artist Andrej Dúbravský agrees. He observes insects, animals, and plants in his large garden. In his paintings, he captures the smallest creatures and their unique details. Andrej Dúbravský paints them in his own washed-out style. The colors in his paintings blur, shimmer, and appear so vivid that the animals or people in them seem to step out of the picture at any moment! We want to try this color magic too. In the studio, we paint with magic pens and see what special effects water and brushes have on our paintings.

A dialog with the Queer Center Erlangen

In this tour, we will first simply let the works of Andrej Dúbravský and melanie bonajo sink in. melanie bonajo describes herself as a queer artist. Her video works give a voice to people who are otherwise less likely to be heard. Andrej Dúbravský lives as an openly gay artist in Slovakia and faces a lot of hostility in the conservative society there. In dialogue with experts from the Queer Center Erlangen, we explore the concept of “queer.” We ask questions: What is queer about the works of these two artists? Does it matter whether we know which gender identity someone feels they belong to when viewing the images? The Kunstpalais cordially invites you to broaden your view of the current exhibitions and discover new perspectives far beyond art!

Are you interested in contemporary art and enjoy creative work? Then the ArtBreak at the Kunstpalais is just right for you. Together with our art educator Milena Bonay, you will explore the exhibition by Andrej Dúbravský. Here you will find large-format paintings with a unique, washed-out style that will immediately fascinate you. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to discuss what you have seen with others and creatively express your own ideas. Inspired by what we see, we will develop our own paintings using colors, brushes and various materials. Come to the Kunstpalais and enjoy a creative afternoon break!

All about Boundaries! We discover how empowering it is to set boundaries

Boundaries are everywhere. Practical when you get stuck, soemtimes they are physically and emotionally—both for myself and for others. Some boundaries are invisible, some are unconscious. melanie bonajo approaches this topic in Boundary Boss in a positive and empowering way: colorful, bold, and sparkling. The message is: everyone has the right to know and set their own boundaries. That's incredibly powerful because it sets us free! Together, we want to explore the question of what is okay for us and where we want to say STOP. Inspired by melanie bonajo's work, we will create our own colorful and encouraging cards that remind us: I am a Boundary Boss!

The paintings of Andrej Dúbravský appear direct and untamed. Bees, caterpillars, flowers—nature is Dúbravský's theme! He paints its creatures in his own dreamy, washed-out style. It is often the smallest animals that occupy the large-format paintings and thus become visible. In this workshop for people with dementia, you will explore Andrey Dúbravský's paintings together with art educator Johanna Berges-Grunert and get a feel for them. The large-format insects captivate us. The colors of nature shine out at us and reveal hidden beauties. In the museum studio, you will then have the opportunity to creatively express your impressions. We will work with paint and brushes and draw inspiration from the artist's incomparable painting style.

Please bring clothing that can withstand paint, or pack an old shirt. In cooperation with Dreycedern.e.V. 

Immerse yourself, switch off, be creative... Art & Movie Night at the Kunstpalais combines art, cinema, and good company. Together we will explore Andrej Dúbravský's exhibition Protest of Peculiars. His paintings seem like echoes of summer memories: bright, fleeting, and imbued with an indefinable beauty. We will be inspired by his work and experiment with an unusual painting technique!  We'll only reveal this much: paste and crepe paper will be used. There will also be music, snacks, drinks, and the classic film A bugs life. It fits perfectly with Andrej Dúbravský's favorite theme: Insects. We look forward to a relaxing evening with you and to great ideas!

Vibrant colors! We experiment with colors and water

Bees, animals, flowers, people—in all shapes and colors. Andrej Dúbravský brings a wide variety of motifs to life with his incomparable painting style. The colors run into each other, seem blurred, and begin to shimmer when viewed for a longer period of time. We drift from work to work and sense the fleeting nature of this painting. How does he do it? In the museum studio, we become researchers ourselves and experiment with colors and water. Then we create our own picture with shimmering colors!

Workshop with melanie bonajo und Chill

Are you interested in an empowering self-experiment? Then this workshop is just right for you. Together with melanie bonajo, we will discover how to become a true “Boundary Boss”! We will tune into ourselves, explore our own boundaries, and become aware of the feelings of others. Through movement and targeted exercises, we will become more aware of ourselves. We will consciously experience how a “yes” or “no” feels in our bodies. And we will feel what consensus means in a group — not mere permission, but a living, jointly agreed upon arrangement. Come to this workshop and learn to stand up for yourself, take responsibility, and choose from a position of strength and clarity. This creates space for genuine intimacy and joy! This is real empowerment!

On Long Thursday, you have the opportunity to end the day with some great art. Come to the Kunstpalais between 6 and 8 p.m. free of charge and enjoy a break from everyday life while taking in the works on display in the exhibitions. Andrej Dúbravský's Protest of Peculiars focuses on small, strange, and overlooked creatures. melanie bonajo creates in Echo Organs spectacular settings in which video works are shown. These give a voice to people who are otherwise less likely to be heard.

At 6:30 p.m., you can take part in a free short guided tour with one of our art educators and learn more about the background of the works and artists.

Andrej Dúbravský's images seem like fleeting echoes of summer memories. They depict bees, caterpillars, flowers, and men who mysteriously return the viewer's gaze. The works speak of the fragility of the natural balance in which nature and humans live. And of the resistance inherent in every expression of diversity and sexual self-determination.

Want to relax and recharge your batteries after a long day at work? You can do just that at an art workshop for adults, the After Work(shop) at the Kunstpalais. Join our art educator Milena Bonay as she explores the exhibition Protest of Peculiars by Andrej Dúbravský and take a visual journey that will distract you from your everyday work routine. Here you will find large-format paintings whose unique, washed-out style will immediately captivate you. Many of the works tell of the fragility of the natural balance in which nature and humans live. Afterwards, you will translate your impressions into creative form. Buzz, buzz, buzz. Little creatures fly around... That's how you could describe Andrej Dúbravský's exhibition Protest of Peculiars. Many of his pictures show insects – very large, very colorful, and truly beautiful! We want to take a close look and discover all the fine and fascinating details. Every little creature is different and unique. Nature has endless variations. In our studio, we will look together at the ideas that come to mind and create flying creatures for our children's rooms.
