Art in Architecture (currently on parental leave)
What makes the Art Education at Kunstpalais so special to you?
The Art Education at Kunstpalais is exactly as colorful as our exhibitions—from the very little ones to the big ones, people with an affinity for art and museum novices—they are all welcome. I love the dialog with the visitors and the most beautiful thing to see is when the experiences from the exhi-bition lead to really great artworks that come out of our studio. When I’m in front of the artworks with the children and can feel their enthusiasm, then I’m even more euphoric than I already am!
What role does art play in your life?
I’d say art is my elixir of life! Does this sound corny? Only a little bit. I love art—from the medieval high altar to the ultra-modern blob on the wall. Good art to me means surprises, something unim-agined and something that I can’t get out of my head! Without art, everything is just boring.
What place do you long for?
Don’t get me wrong—I like Erlangen a lot. I’m just too much of a dyed-in-the-wool North German native… I miss the sea, the waves, the wind and the sound of the sea in my ears. This is why, in my leisure time, I’m drawn to the most beautiful island in the world. A little piece of paradise in the Baltic Sea—with the world’s best fish cakes. Guess where that could be? A little hint: The island is nearly diamond-shaped!
