Verena Issel works in a wide variety of media; her work includes installations, sculptures, films, drawings, collages and wall objects. The artist likes to create strange, cute, dangerous or humorous scenarios whose socio-political references only become insistent and serious at second glance. The content of Verena Issel's works varies: Both her themes and the form and material of her spatial installations respond precisely to the respective exhibition environment. Her bending Tempelhüter (temple guardian), for example, can be read as a reaction to trends such as performance enhancement, fitness and training on the one hand and deceleration, resilience and serenity on the other. After all, yoga and mindfulness courses are still booming at the moment.
