The so-called camera obscura was invented many hundreds of years ago. The term is Latin and means something like ‘dark chamber’. It is the forerunner of the photo camera as we know it today. But how does such a camera actually work? The best way to find out is to make one ourselves. Together we will build a pinhole camera and explore the basic principle of photography.

Tell me a story no one told me before
In the workshop Tell me a story no one told me before, participants explore the connection between photography and text together with Anna Hofmann. In her artistic work, the visual artist and writer operates at the interface between word and image. In the first theoretical part, Anna Hofmann will present her previous work and use examples such as Juergen Teller, Sophie Calle, Wolfgang Tillmans and W. G. Sebald to show how text and image can interact. In the second part, we move on to practical work: Each person will be asked to bring an existing sentence - either self-written or borrowed. This sentence will be combined on site with a photo taken by the participants during the workshop.Duration: 3 hours

Workshop series with former Teller-Students - I got a feeling
Can commercial photography be fun? Can artistic freedom be reconciled with the wishes of big brands? David Häuser has the answers. He photographs for companies such as Dolce&Gabbana or Jack Daniels and still manages to remain artistically true to himself. In this workshop, he talks about the role empathy plays in this and what he has learnt from Juergen Teller about the balancing act between job and art. In the practical part, the prankster then meets the product to be advertised. Häuser slips into the role of the client and the participants into the role of the photographer. What should be advertised? Is it the great museum shops, the wonderfully cool exhibition rooms in summer or the sustainability of paper printing? Under expert guidance, we will create our own Kunstpalais advertising campaign with the camera, which can be funny, serious or bizarre.Duration: 3 hours
