Pattern Recognition: Exhibition opening with party!

International contemporary art has been collected in Erlangen for over 50 years. Pattern Recognition. Wiedersehen mit der Städtischen Sammlung Erlangen examines the rich holdings of the collection against the background of numerous upheavals in art and society from the founding years of the collection to the present day. By juxtaposing eleven long-standing works from the collection with eleven new acquisitions or loans by younger artists, the exhibition sets out to find patterns, similarities, and differences. The result is eleven intense dialogues that look back on more than five decades of art history and from which forward-looking narratives develop at the same time.

In the exhibition rooms you can expect live speakers who will answer your questions about art. Admission is free and the exhibition is open until 10 pm. Simon Lehner, Alona Rodeh & Sonja Yakovleva will be present. Party with music by Dubois and drinks at the Palais Bar.

    Entrance: free

Little masters: Lirum, larum, Löffelstiel. We create pictures from everyday objects

You think knives and forks belong on the table? And what about nuts and bolts? The artist Sofia Hultén forms exciting works of art from everyday objects and builds puzzles with them. Do you notice anything? She herself was inspired by Bongard problems. These are tricky puzzles where you have to find differences or similarities. How fitting that her paintings are named the same as our exhibition: Pattern Recognition III & IV. In our studio, we will create our own works of art in which seemingly simple everyday objects make their grand entrance!

Little masters: Futurismo! We shape buildings with fantastic elements

Past, present, future - where have we landed here? Two fantastic sculptures await us on the upper floor of the Kunstpalais. Is this how aliens build? Why this pink? Or were Aleksandra Domanović and Fritz Koenig inspired by a science fiction film? These are all questions that we want to answer together! Inspired by the artworks of the two artists, we will form our own buildings with fantastic elements in our museum studio.

In this workshop, it's: to the scissors and go! For your own work of art you will be inspired by the artists Anna & Bernhard Johannes Blume and Simon Lehner. Suddenly you see half a face next to a cut-up bottle or photos that suddenly become three-dimensional. You have to look very closely! Peaks, edges and waves protrude from the pictures. Little Masters: Floodlight - Flood of Lights. We experiment with bright neon colors

Artist Alona Rodeh loves light and neon colors! Maybe you remember her brightly lit solo exhibition at the Kunstpalais? This time, too, you'll find her artworks in the basement: brightly lit, two large sculptures frame the staircase. Is someone standing there? Jack Goldstein has also played with the effect of light in his photos - are these floodlights or a flood of lights? With so much brightness in mind, we go to our studio - we experiment with bright neon colors!

Mini-Master: Krikkel, krakkel, art? Together we paint masterpieces from lines

Sometimes you might ask yourself: Is this really art? Because you just can't make out anything in all the tangle of lines?
