At first glance, it looks like a couple making out in front of a wall. In keeping with one of Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann's favorite themes, illusion and deception, the supposed couple quickly turns out to be a one-dimensional cardboard cut-out. But that's not all: the embrace between the two figures is not real either, not even in the photograph. The scene is based on a crook's trick from old black-and-white films, for which the fugitive disguises himself by hugging himself at the next corner of the house, thus giving the impression that there are suddenly two completely different people here.

On closer inspection, the medium of the cardboard stand-up, primarily used for advertising, and the intimate scene are diametrically opposed. The title +1 refers to a common formulation on public invitations, which stands for bringing another person. But what if you don't want to bring anyone at all?
